Interview with El Colmillo de Morsa (December 2012)

As the last post of the year I have the honor to present our interview with the two young designers leading the Spanish fashion brand El Colmillo de Morsa, Jordi Espino and Elisabet Vallecillo.
Como último post del año tengo el honor de presentaros nuestra entrevista junto a los dos jóvenes diseñadores al frente de la firma española de moda El Colmillo de Morsa, Jordi Espino y Elisabet Vallecillo.

Born in Barcelona, El Colmillo de Morsa surprising collections since 2009, with a youthful, free and full of originality, their clothes off lightweight comfort, beauty and elegance, which certainly has made me secure in their creations and I encouraged to contact the two designers of the firm to do this interview. Nacida en Barcelona , El Colmillo de Morsa nos sorprende desde 2009 con colecciones con un espíritu joven , libre y llenas de originalidad , sus prendas desprenden comodidad , ligereza , belleza y elegancia , lo que sin duda ha hecho que me fije en sus creaciones y me animaron para contactar con los dos diseñadores de la firma para hacer esta entrevista. 1. Why did you choose the name "El Colmillo de Morsa" for your firm?

1.¿Por qué elegisteis el nombre de “El colmillo de Morsa” para vuestra firma?

5. What is El Colmillo de Morsa not get another brand?

5.¿Que tiene El colmillo de Morsa que no tenga otra marca?

We propose another model of consumption that strips the theories fashion obsolescence and tendentious. We start with quality raw materials, we opted for the use of natural fabrics and delimit the production only at national level, work very closely the concept of collection, color relationships, patterns and small details, looking for timelessness. Basically we understand the concept of design as an empirical task, exploration and experimentation in which to put all our personal sensitivity.

Planteamos otro modelo de consumo, que despoja a la moda de las teorías de la obsolescencia y su carácter tendencioso. Partimos de la calidad en las materias primas, nos decantamos por el uso de tejidos naturales y acotamos la producción a nivel exclusivamente nacional; Trabajamos muy detenidamente el concepto de colección, las relaciones de color, los estampados y los pequeños detalles, buscando la atemporalidad. Básicamente entendemos el concepto de diseño como una tarea empírica, de exploración y experimentación en la que volcar toda nuestra sensibilidad personal.

Diseñadoras como Ana Locking hacen que literalmente me trague mis palabras , siempre he sido muy crítico con la moda española , calificándola de aburrida , repetitiva , inspirada en las grandes firmas internacionales  o tan sumamente obsesionada con la búsqueda de la distinción y la originalidad con respecto a la moda de otros países que lo único que conseguía era crear prendas esperpénticas y obviamente difícil de encontrar algo parecido en el mercado.

No sé exactamente si el que he cambiado he sido yo y mi visión sobre la moda española o lo que es la moda española en sí misma pero está claro que cada vez me siento más atraído e identificado con ella ; no nos podemos quejar , la moda española está en alza , diseñadores como David Delfín , Josep Font o a la propia Ana Locking a la que dedicamos este post , acaparan las miradas de entendidos y entusiastas de la moda alrededor del mundo.

Es curioso pero la primera vez que vi a Ana Locking en persona fue hace a penas un mes durante la "Afterwork party" de Laura Vela en Madrid ; al principio no la reconocí , pero cuando entró acompañada de unos amigos me llamó muchísimo la atención los complementos y accesorios que llevaba ella y otra chica que la acompañaba , y entonces fue cuando se me vinieron a la cabeza cosas como : ¡Pero si esos zapatos me suenan que son de Ana Locking!(se trataba de un modelo de su colección de Otoño/Invierno2012), ¿Será casualidad que ambas chicas lleven zapatos de la misma diseñadora? Un momento, ¿Es Ana Locking?...........efectivamente se trataba de la diseñadora Ana Locking que había asistido al evento invitada al igual que yo ; pero ante la duda me decanté por no presentarme cosa que todavía hoy me arrepiento.

Color Trends F/W 2012-2013

I was going to say happy Sunday but we all know that's impossible .... I should have posted this post a while since the colors are key when investing in a garment or accessory but I had gone completely, but despite that since we are dizzy and try to sell us collections Spring / Summer is coming, we are still in the middle of December and unless you live in a tropical paradise, is bitterly cold.

British Affair

Had long had pending show me for first time in Lookbook.nu  but had not yet found time or time until today that while watching the pictures I had of my last summer I met a few of them appearing in an outfit that I love.

Interview with Andreas Brunnhage

Now we are at the end of the month of November and in case you had not noticed I had not posted the interview of this month, this time we had the pleasure of interviewing an internationally renowned model, with a busy schedule full of exclusively signatures  like Prada, her name is Andreas Brunnhage and if you are a fan and follower of male gateways you sure your face is very well known.

Ya estamos ante el último día del mes de Noviembre y por si no os habíais dado cuenta todavía no había colgado la entrevista de este mes ; en esta ocasión hemos tenido el placer de entrevistar a un modelo de fama internacional , con una agenda ocupada exclusivamente por firmas de la talla de Prada , su nombre es Andreas Brunnhage y si eres un fanático y seguidor de las pasarelas masculinas seguro que su rostro te resulta más que conocido.

A little about Andreas

Born in northern Sweden, sports and sea lover , turned his love of skateboarding throughout a passion and a lifestyle, says the school and the classes were not supposedly what he liked best in the world and the only thing he was good there were the drawing, sports and talk to girls.

Nacido en el norte de Suecia , amante de los deportes y el mar , convirtió su afición por el monopatín en toda una pasión y un estilo de vida , afirma que el colegio y las clases no eran supuestamente lo que más le gustaba del mundo y que lo único que se le daba bien allí eran el dibujo , los deportes y hablar con chicas.

As you can see Andreas's personality seems to be open and outgoing and that the interview is not at all behind.

Como podéis comprobar la personalidad de  Andreas parece ser algo más que abierto y extrovertido y la entrevista no se queda para nada atrás.

The Interview

1.What's your favourite feature about yourself?

1.¿Qué es lo que más valores de ti?

I guess my favourite feature about myself is that I’m very positive and open-minded.

Supongo que lo que más me gusta de mi es que soy muy positivo y abierto.

2. So, how did you start modelling?

2.Entonces , ¿Como empezó tu carrera como modelo?

My friend, who is now my booker, filmed me when I was skating one day in the city. Without my knowledge she sent it to Prada. A couple of days later she asked me if I wanted to make some quick money. I did, of course, and that’s how it started.

Mi amigo, que ahora es mi agente, me filmó cuando yo estaba patinando un día en la ciudad. Sin mi conocimiento  ella lo envió a Prada. Un par de días más tarde me preguntó si quería hacer algo de dinero rápido. Lo hice, por supuesto, y así es como empezó.

3. What was your first job and how was it? Did you feel comfortable in front of the camera?

3.¿Cuál y cómo fue tu primer trabajo?¿Te sentiste cómodo frente a la cámara?

My first job was the Prada show in 2010. It was very intense to start with such an important show. I was a little nervous at first but as I stepped out on the runway the adrenalin rush I got from it was very exciting. 

Mi primer trabajo fue el show de Prada en 2010. Fue muy intenso comenzar con un show tan importante. Yo estaba un poco nervioso al principio, pero cuando salí a la pista el subidón de adrenalina que recibí de él fue muy emocionante.

4. Do you prefer photo shoots or fashion shows? Why?

4.Prefieres sesiones de fotos o desfiles de moda?¿Por qué?

I think I prefer fashion shows because there’s more opportunity to meet new people and it’s much more exciting. 

Creo que prefiero los desfiles de moda porque hay más oportunidades de conocer gente nueva y es mucho más emocionante.

5. Did you ever think you could be a model?

5.¿Pensaste alguna vez que podrías ser modelo?

No, never thought of myself as a model.

No , nunca pensé en mi como modelo.

6. What did you want to be when you were kid?

6.¿Qué querías ser cuando eres pequeño?

I really wanted to be a chef when I was a kid. Later, I realised how stressful that profession was.

Tenía muchas ganas de ser un chef cuando  era un niño. Más tarde, me di cuenta de lo estresante que la profesión era.

7. What is the most memorable job you have done?

7.¿Cuál es el trabajo más memorable que has hecho?

 Most memorable job is still my first show for Prada in 2010. Such a different scene to what I was used to, it’s still a very vivid memory of how crazy it was to be there. 

Mi trabajo más memorable aún es mi primer show de Prada en 2010.Por que fue una escena diferente a lo que estaba acostumbrado, sigue siendo un recuerdo muy vívido de lo loco que era estar allí.

8. What would you do right now if you weren't a model?

8.¿Que harías ahora si no fueras  modelo?

I think I would still be studying art. Or perhaps, continuing my training as a skiing instructor and travelling around to different mountains. I hope one day maybe I’ll open up my own café as I have a great passion for coffee & food, hence the desire to be a chef as a kid.

Yo creo que todavía estaría estudiando arte. O tal vez, continuar mi formación como instructor de esquí y viajar por las montañas diferentes. Espero que algún día tal vez abra mi propio café por mi gran pasión por el café y la comida, por lo tanto, el deseo de ser un chef de niño.

9. What is your most embarrassing or awkward moment?

9.¿Cual es tu momento más embarazoso o incómodo?

After the Kenzo show, as I was taking off my clothes and changing out of the uncomfortable tight underwear the designer came in and saw me naked. I was a little embarrassed, but I’m sure this happens to many models.

Después del espectáculo Kenzo, estaba quitándome mi ropa i cambíandome la incómoda y ceñida ropa interior cuando el diseñador entró y me vio desnudo. Yo estaba un poco avergonzado, pero estoy seguro que esto le sucede a muchos modelos.

10. What is your personal style?

10.¿Cuál es tu estilo personal?

I don’t know if I have a particular style. I like to just be natural and comfortable in my clothes. If I go to a party however I like to dress up and wear suits or something stylish.

No sé si tengo un estilo particular. Me gusta ser algo natural y cómoda con la ropa . Si voy a una fiesta sin embargo, me gusta vestir y usar trajes o algo por el estilo.

11. What are your favourite brands and designers?

11.¿Cuáles y quiénes son tus marcas y diseñadores favoritos?

I think one of my favourite brands has to be American Apparel because it’s casual but stylish at the same time. I really like Thierry Mugler’s creations his outfits are really great. 

I think I prefer girls’ fashion to boys and so this explains my fascination for Coco Chanel and her immense influence on the modern fashion design.

If I buy clothes however it’s from a second hand store, but I get a lot of clothes from the jobs.

Creo que una de mis marcas favoritas tiene que ser American Apparel porque es informal pero elegante al mismo tiempo. Me gusta mucho las creaciones de Thierry Mugler , sus trajes son realmente geniales.

Creo que prefiero la moda femenina a la masculina y por lo tanto esto explica mi fascinación por Coco Chanel y su inmensa influencia en el diseño de moda moderna.

Si compro ropa sin embargo es de una tienda de segunda mano, pero tengo un montón de ropa que me regalan en mi trabajo.

12. What kind of music do you listen to? Do you play any?

12.¿Qué tipo de música escuchas?¿Tocas algún instrumento?

I love music and listen to it all day every day if I can. I love bands like The Who, The xx, Simon and Garfunkel, Grizzly Bear etc. I’ve always loved to sing so I guess my voice is my instrument. To me it’s the voice that matters in music.

Me encanta la música y escucharla todo el día, todos los días si es posible. Me encantan bandas como The Who, The xx, Simon y Garfunkel, Grizzly Bear, etc Siempre me ha gustado cantar, así que supongo que mi voz es mi instrumento. Para mí es la voz lo que importa en la música.

13. How do you keep your body in shape? Do you practice any particular sport or gym routine?

13.¿Qué haces para mantener tu cuerpo en forma?¿Practicas o sigues algún deporte o rutina en especial?

I’m very active and skate whenever I can. I love to swim, play soccer, ski and even climb. I do go to the gym to keep in shape though. 

Soy muy activo y patinao siempre que puedo. Me encanta nadar, jugar al fútbol, esquíar e incluso escalar. Sin embargo voy al gimnasio para mantenerme en forma.

14. Tell us about your life outside the fashion industry, what do you do in your free time? How would you describe your way to have fun?

14. Háblanos de su vida fuera de la industria de la moda, ¿qué haces en tu tiempo libre? ¿Cómo describirías tu manera de divertirte?

I’ve tried to keep it the same as it was before I started this job. As in skating, hanging out with friends, going out to hear some good music... Also I’ve had a girlfriend for 5 months now and I’ve loved getting to know her better.

He intentado que sea el mismo que era antes de empezar este trabajo. Al igual que en el patinaje, salir con los amigos, salir a escuchar buena música ... También he tenido una novia desde hace 5 meses y me está encantando conocerla mejor.

15. What are the advantages and disadvantages of your profession?

15.¿Cuáles son las ventajas y desventajas de tu profesión?

It’s great that I’m able to travel and see the big cities of the world. I get to work in different places all the time and meet many interesting people including my girlfriend.

I dislike being on standby all the time and not knowing how much money I will make every month. It’s very hard to get organised. It’s not nice to have to see such sickly skinny girls around all the time. I can’t believe the fashion industry wants them this way.

Es muy bueno que soy capaz de viajar y ver las grandes ciudades del mundo. Me pongo a trabajar en diferentes lugares todo el tiempo y conocer a muchas personas interesantes, como mi novia.

No me gusta estar en estado de alerta todo el tiempo y no saber cuánto dinero voy a ganar cada mes. Es muy difícil mantenerse organizado. No es agradable tener que ver a esas chicas delgadas y enfermas todo el tiempo. No puedo creer que la industria de la moda las quiera así.

16. Why did you accept to do this interview?

16.¿Por qué aceptaste hacer esta entrevista?

I guess this is also a part of my job. I need to advertise myself, and doing interviews is a good way to get attention! 

Supongo que esto forma parte también de mi trabajo. Necesito darme a conocer , y haciendo entrevista es una buena forma de captar atención.

17. What is your goal as a model?

17.¿Cuál es tu meta como modelo?

I’d like to continue travelling around as much as possible. Being a good model that designers request, because they know I work well. I’d like to earn some money and save it so that I can do something more significant in the future. 

Me gustaría seguir viajando alrededor tanto como sea posible. Ser un buen modelo y que los diseñadores me quieran, porque saben que trabajo bien. Me gustaría ganar algo de dinero y guardarlo para que yo pueda hacer algo más importante en el futuro.

I lived on a boat with my dad for three years. One morning I woke up to the sound of a foreign language. All of a sudden we were in Denmark.

Hopefully grown up! Taking care of my own business whilst still travelling around somewhat. Maybe I’ll be living in the mountains.

23. Last question, what do you think about the fashion industry today? What’s the best part? And the worst?

This industry is great for meeting a lot of interesting and creative people from all over the world. I get to see a lot of various professionals working in different ways. 

However it’s a very stressful industry, for my part I have constrains like not being allowed to sunbathe, or having to keep a certain weight and always a great body shape. It’s terrible that some models do get sick and develop eating disorders.

Esta industria es ideal para conocer a un montón de gente interesante y creativa de todo el mundo. Llego a ver un montón de diferentes profesionales que trabajan de diferentes maneras.

Sin embargo, es una industria muy estresante, por mi parte he de  abstenerme  a poder tomar el sol, o tener que mantener un cierto peso y siempre un buen cuerpo en forma. Es terrible que algunos modelos enfermen y desarrollen desórdenes alimenticios.

Depressing Happy Monday to everyone! It is clear that were invented to pass Monday blogging and entertain the beginning of the week, so for now I have you prepared a post beyond great.
¡Feliz deprimente Lunes para todos! Está claro que los Lunes fueron inventados para pasarlos bloggeando y amenizar el comienzo de la semana ,así que para hoy os tengo preparado un post más que genial.

Little by little thanks to The Queens Also Fart and all his readers I'm making a way in the fashion world, the fruit of my work is participation in events like the one I attended last Thursday in Madrid. It was the party-presentation of the latest collection of handbags designed by Laura Vela with that following an interview did a nice relationship  with her as with her great publicist Colleen Murphy.
Poco a poco gracias a The Queens also Fart y todos sus lectores me voy abriendo un camino en el mundo de la moda , fruto de mi trabajo es la participación en  eventos como el que asistí el pasado Jueves en Madrid. Se trataba de la fiesta-presentación de la última colección de bolsos de la diseñadora Laura Vela con la que a raíz de una entrevista hice bastante relación tanto con ella como con su estupenda publicista Colleen Murphy.

Colleen and I had been warned in advance of the event, but my invitation as a blogger in the event was formalized when I received this email in my mailbox:
Colleen ya me había avisado con antelación de dicho evento , pero mi invitación como blogger en el evento se formalizó cuando recibí este correo en mi bandeja:

The party was held at the Land Rover Store in Madrid, the place enjoying a large window was decorated down to the last detail by Capital Decó (capitaldeco.es) company dedicated to interior design and decoration created by Paco Espino and Alejandro Díaz-Iglesias (two really great), whom I had the pleasure to meet and commend them for the great work they had done with the event. It was impressive as a place that apparently may seem as masculine as automotive dealer was given by a change of look a much more feminine and suitable for the presentation of a collection of handbags, the site chosen was completely rock, the juveniles combination Laura Vela bags, floral details and decorated in pastel colors of the Land Rover made ​​a very cozy Store and cheerful to behold.

La fiesta tuvo lugar en la Land Rover Store en Madrid , el local que goza de unos amplios escaparates estaba decorado cuidando hasta el mínimo detalle por Capital Decó (capitaldeco.es) empresa dedicada al interiorismo y decoración creada por Paco Espino y Alejandro Díaz-Iglesias(dos personas realmente estupendas) , a los que tuve el placer de conocer y elogiarles por el gran trabajo que habían hecho con el evento. Era impresionante como de un lugar  que aparentemente pueda parecer tan masculino como un concesionario de automoción se  le daba gracias a un cambio de look un aspecto mucho más femenino y apto para la presentación de una colección de bolsos , el escenario escogido era completamente rupestre, la combinación entre los juveniles bolsos de Laura Vela , los detalles florales y los decorados en tonos pastel hacían de la Land Rover Store un lugar muy acogedor y alegre para la vista.

The collection created by Laura was great, designs as "Lola" caused a sensation and they kept being photographed by the other partygoers, could once again enjoy the great Laura Vela ability to merge different colors and textures for result creations really worthy of admiration.

La colección creada por Laura era estupenda , diseños como  "Lola" causaron sensación y no paraban de ser fotografiados por el resto de asistentes a la fiesta ; una vez más pudimos disfrutar de la gran habilidad de Laura Vela de fusionar colores y texturas muy diferentes para dar lugar a creaciones realmente dignas de admirar.

Laura and Colleen were very good host having to mime to all attendees with sweet and savory snacks which in turn were also part of the decor, no one was either untested explosives Belvedere Vodka cocktails (a sponsor), and for minors and not supporters of alcoholic beverages were not far behind offering a wide range of drinks courtesy of Solan de Cabras which also sponsored the event and whose representative Ruben Bejarano also had the pleasure of meeting.

 Laura y Colleen fueron muy buenas anfitrionas teniendo a mimo a todos los asistentes con dulces y salados aperitivos que a su vez también formaban parte de la decoración , nadie se fue sin probar tampoco los explosivos cócteles de Belvedere Vodka (uno de los patrocinadores) , y para los menores de edad y no simpatizantes de las bebidas alcohólicas no se quedaban atrás ofreciendo una amplia variedad de bebidas por cortesía de Solán de Cabras que también patrocinaba el evento y cuyo representante Ruben Bejarano tuve también el placer de conocer.

The organizer and coordinator of the event was DROOM (drom.es), "boutique agency" specializes in creating strategic relationships with the best brands, who in my opinion did a great job with the presentation and whose members were more than lovely because I had the opportunity to exchange views and some words with them during the party, you needed anything they were there.

La empresa organizadora y coordinadora del evento fue DROOM (drom.es), "agencia boutique" especializada en crear relaciones estratégicas con las mejores marcas del mercado; quienes en mi opinión hicieron un gran trabajo con la presentación y cuyos miembros eran algo más que encantadores ya que tuve la oportunidad de intercambiar opiniones y algunas palabras con ellos durante la fiesta , para cualquier cosa que necesitaras ellos estaban allí.

I wasted no time and finally got a word with the designer, who personally consider it wonderful and did not hesitate to ask him to do a couple of pictures with me:

No perdí el tiempo y finalmente conseguí intercambiar unas palabras con la diseñadora , quién personalmente considero que es maravillosa y no dudé en pedirle que se hiciera alguna que otra foto conmigo:

(Not to be selfish but I think the photos do not do justice, I feel not photogenic, I think I said all photographers that make me look taller, thinner and blonder in the photos but anyway ...)

(No quiero ser egocéntrico ni parecer estúpido pero pienso que las fotos no me hacen justicia , siento no ser fotogénico , creo que comenté a todos los fotógrafos que me hiciesen parecer más alto , más delgado y más rubio en las fotos pero en fin...)

Con respecto a la decoración , la puesta en escena y los diseños os dejo que judgueis vosotros mismos:

I had thought about putting a drawing or sticker on my face in this photo but this time let it go ..... The photos don´t do justice me!
Había pensado en poner algún dibujo o pegatina sobre mi cara en esta foto pero por esta vez lo dejaré pasar.....repito , ¡no me hacen justicia las fotos!

All the guests were treated to a nice card holder by Laura Vela among many other things.
A todos los invitados nos obsequiaron con un bonito tarjetero de la firma entre otras muchas cosas.

El modelo Lola de Laura Vela disponible en tres colores y dos tamaños diferentes fue uno de los diseños que más sensación causó.

This design was one of my favorites, I love both your employer and the combination of textures, materials and colors that Laura used.
 Este diseño fue uno de mis favoritos , me encanta tanto su patrón como la combinación de texturas, materiales y colores que ha utilizado.
