Interview with Carlota Dalmau (July 2013)

Very good morning! Just spent the last day of July, and as expected, could not miss our interview of the month, blog section where eager deposit and effort to make such great people as I have had the pleasure of interviewing up now, to devote a few words to The Queens also Fart. I'm not complaining, these collaborations are certainly one of the things that encourages me to keep writing!

¡Muy buenos días! Acabamos de pasar el último día de Julio, y como era de esperar, no podía faltar nuestra entrevista del mes; sección del blog en la que deposito muchas ganas y esfuerzo por lograr que personas tan estupendas como las que he tenido el placer de entrevistar hasta ahora, nos dediquen unas palabras en The Queens also Fart. No me quejo , ¡estas colaboraciones son sin duda una de las cosas que más me anima a seguir escribiendo!

Young, pretty, educated, licensed by the Marangoni Institute in "Fashion Business", (has it all!) so is a daughter of Spanish fashion, since we are talking about nothing more and nothing less than Carlota Dalmau, daughter of one of the most international Spanish fashion designers nowadays, the founder of the optimistic and always full of color firm, Custo Barcelona, Custo Dalmau. With a personal style that loves and a lifestyle full of sensational events and moments, Carlota exclusively tells some of her key when dressing, her own vision of the firm of her father, and some of the many aspects of her life and hobbies that sure did not know about her.

Joven, guapa , educada , licenciada por el Instituto Marangoni en "Fashion Business", (¡lo tiene todo!) así es una de las hijas de la moda española, puesto que estamos hablando nada más y nada menos de Carlota Dalmau, hija de uno de los modistos españoles más internacionales de la actualidad, el fundador de la optimista firma y siempre llena de color , Custo Barcelona, Custo Dalmau. Con un estilo personal que encanta y una forma de vida llena de acontecimientos y momentos sensacionales, Carlota nos cuenta en exclusiva algunas de sus claves a la hora de vestir, su propia visión acerca de la firma de su padre , y algunos de los muchos aspectos de su vida y aficiones que seguro que no sabes de ella.

*The interview:

1. How would you define your personal style?

1.¿Cómo definirías tu estilo personal?

Everyone knows what feels best, I do not follow trends. Although it would have to label would be "effort less Parisian chic, comfortable but with pieces that feel good and make you feel feminine and sexy without having to wear a tight dress with a maxi-neckline or vertigo heels.

Cada uno sabe lo que le sienta mejor, no sigo tendencias. Aunque sí tuviera que etiquetarlo sería effort less chic parisino, cómoda, pero con piezas que sientan bien y que te hagan sentir femenina y sexy sin tener que llevar un vestido apretado maxiescote y tacón de vértigo.

2.What are the advantages and disadvantages of being the daughter of a well-known fashion designer?

2.¿Cuáles son las ventajas e inconvenientes de ser la hija de un diseñador de moda tan conocido?

I have a wonderful father, despite being known has his feet firmly rooted to the ground. It has many advantages, but today however 'daughter' you are, if you do not try hard enough you do nothing, and expect a lot more from you.

Tengo un padre maravilloso, a pesar de ser conocido tiene los pies bien anclados a la tierra. Tiene muchas ventajas, pero hoy en día por muy 'hija de' que seas, si no te lo curras no haces nada, y esperan mucho más de ti.

No, I collaborate with Custo because for me it's like working with family and is more fun than work. In addition, it also gives me the opportunity to travel when the parade is outside Barcelona.

 No, colaboro con  Custo porque para mi es como trabajar con mi familia y es más diversión que trabajo. Además, también me da la oportunidad de viajar cuando el desfile es fuera de Barcelona.

5.What are your hobbies?

Read, gym, surfing, yoga, skiing, traveling, eating well, fashion magazines and blogs, my iPhone, pinterest, instagram ...

6.Are you faithful to your father's designs?

6.¿Eres fiel a los diseños de tu padre?

I do not wear Custo total look, but I like to wear every day even a piece, be it clothes, bags, watches, sunglasses ...

No suelo llevar total look Custo, pero me gusta llevar cada día aunque sea una pieza, ya sea ropa, bolso, reloj, gafas...

7.A part of Custo Barcelona, who are your header designers?

7.A parte de Custo Barcelona, ¿quiénes son tus diseñadores de cabecera?

Isabel Marant, Iro, Splendid, Balmain, but also buy things at flea markets and at any store I find something cute.

8.A garment or accessory that you save with special affection in your closet:

A lovely dress by Rick Owens , which my boyfriend brought me from Los Angeles.

Un vestido precioso de Rick Owens que me trajo mi chico de Los Ángeles .

9.Do you see yourself in the future in the design and directive area of Custo Barcelona?

9.¿Te ves en un futuro formando parte tanto del área directiva como de diseño de Custo Barcelona? 

At the moment I am working only sporadically. I request along with a styling team parades. I'm a girl who hasn´t very clear and structured their future, I have friends that are marked for all deadlines, to finish the career, finding work, family ... They have their lives planned. I'm doing things as they arise but not with the aim of ending work in Custo. Still do not know what the future holds for me luckily.

De momento solo estoy colaborando esporádicamente. Me encargo junto con un equipo del estilismo de los desfiles. No soy una chica que tenga muy claro y estructurado su futuro, tengo amigas que se marcan fechas limite para todo, para acabar la carrera, encontrar trabajo, pareja... ya tienen su vida planificada. Voy haciendo cosas a medida que van surgiendo pero no con el objetivo de acabar trabajando en Custo. Todavía no se lo que me depara el futuro por suerte. 

10.How would you describe your relationship with the world of fashion?

10.¿Cómo describirías tu relación personal con el mundo de la moda?

 For me, the fashion world is my world. I remember having to be small in factories weekends playing with fabrics kilometric waiting for my parents ended up working. At home I'm finding roles, even napkins with designs from my father everywhere ... My day revolves around fashion, and I like it.

 Para mi el mundo de la moda es mi mundo. Recuerdo de pequeña tener que estar en las fábricas los fines de semana jugando con telas kilométricas esperando a que mis padres acabaran de trabajar. En casa me voy encontrando papeles, incluso servilletas con diseńos de mi padre por todas partes...Mi día a día gira en torno a la moda, y me gusta.

Right now I'm on a plane to Bali. I hope it will become my new paradise.

Ahora mismo estoy en un avión con destino Bali. Espero que se convierta en mi nuevo paraíso .

12. What do you have exactly with the world of acting?

12.¿Qué tienes exactamente con el mundo de la interpretación?

I've always been very curious about the profession, and this last October I launched with classes. I think it's the best thing I could do, I had so much fun in my life. It's like exercise all professions into one, and I think it's wonderful.

Siempre he sentido mucha curiosidad por la profesión, y este último octubre me lance con las clases. Creo que es lo mejor que he podido hacer, no me he divertido tanto en mi vida. Es como ejercer todas las profesiones en una sola, y eso me parece maravilloso.

15.Licensed by the Marangoni Institute in London in "Fashion Business", do you see yourself working for other fashion brands in this field?

15.Licenciada por el Instituto Marangoni de Londres en “Fashion Business”, ¿te ves trabajando para otras firmas de moda en este campo?

 I would love to work for other firms, I've only seen what happens within Custo Barcelona and want to know how to operate other large firms.

 Me encantaría trabajar para otras firmas, yo solo he visto lo que sucede dentro de Custo Barcelona y me gustaría saber como funcionan otras grandes firmas. 

16. What do you think Custo Barcelona differentiates from other firms?

16.¿Qué crees que diferencia a Custo Barcelona de otras firmas?

It is a family business. The spirit is the customer who buys Custo is what makes us special, safety, youth of spirit, good vibes ... But with quality and ECO fashion.

Es una empresa familiar.  El espíritu que tiene el cliente que compra Custo es lo que nos hace especiales, su seguridad, la juventud de espíritu, el buen rollo... Pero con calidad y moda ECO.

17. What garment or accessory you would never wear or combine?

17.¿Qué prenda o accesorio nunca te pondrías o qué no combinarías?

Never say never, but I'm sure I would never wear shoes with platform like Victoria model type.

Nunca digas nunca, pero estoy segura de que nunca me pondría calzado tipo las victoria con plataforma. 

18. What did you want to be when you were little?

18.¿Qué querías ser cuando eras pequeña?

On Monday I wanted to be a designer and president of the government on Tuesday. It was very clear .. I wanted to be elder.

 El lunes quería ser diseñadora y el martes presidenta del gobierno. No lo tenía muy claro.. Quería ser mayor.

19. Who are your style icons?

My mother.

Welcome to Haute Couture!

Twice a year, the glamorous city of lights, French capital and the birthplace of fashion, Paris, captures all the lights and attention, and hosts within its streets, stages and most iconic buildings the most famous event, exclusive, traditional and own of world of fashion: The week of Haute Couture.
Dos veces al año, la glamurosa ciudad de las luces , capital francesa y cuna de la moda , París, acapara todos los focos y atención , y acoge en el seno de sus calles, escenarios y edificios más emblemáticos el evento más célebre ,exclusivo, tradicional y propio del mundo de la moda: La Semana de la Alta Costura.

Worldwide recognized as the most fashion artistic expression and with the greatest splendor (and exclusive), the Haute Couture is far beyond the simple fact of designing, making and presenting dreamy dresses and suits, becoming with its own week in an art of cultural character event and of global interest. But not every signature has the privilege to say that it belongs to this association, only fashion houses that best meet certain requirements to enjoy the opportunity to parade during that week. And these "requirements" are set by a kind of inquisition of fashion world, the "Fédération Française de la Couture", which regulates, checks and reviews season after season all brands belonging and aspiring to belong to this singular union (for whatever name), meet certain guidelines when drawing up and making their collections of "Haute Couture", such as:

Reconocida universalemente como la expresión más artística y de esplendor de la moda (y exclusiva), la Alta Costura va mucho  más allá del simple hecho de diseñar, confeccionar y presentar vestidos y trajes de ensueño, convirtiéndose junto a su propia semana, en un arte y un evento de carácter culturales y de interés mundial. Pero no cualquier firma tiene el privilegio de poder decir que pertenece a este gremio, solo las casas de moda que más se ajustan a una serie de requisitos gozan de la oportunidad de desfilar durante dicha semana. Y estos "requisitos" los establece una especie de inquisición del mundo se la moda, la "Fédération Française de la Couture", que regula, comprueba y revisa que temporada tras temporada todas las marcas pertenecientes y aspirantes a pertenecer a tal singular sindicato (por llamarlo de algún modo), cumplan una serie de pautas a la hora de elaborar sus colecciones de "Alta Costura" , tales como:

* Designing clothing on request and for private clients.
* Designers can sell only a design of each piece in the collection by continent. (A little review for me to understand that I mean with "very exclusive").
* Have a workshop or "atelier" in Paris with at least 20 full-time craftsmen.
* Present each season twice a year: for spring-summer and autumn-winter to the press in Paris, a collection of at least 35 designs for use day and night.

*Diseñar ropa bajo pedido y a medida para clientes privados.

*Los diseñadores pueden vender únicamente un diseño de cada prenda de la colección por continente. (una pequeña reseña para que me entendáis que quiero decir con "muy exclusiva").

*Tener un taller o «atelier» en París con al menos 20 artesanos de tiempo completo.

*Presentar cada temporada dos veces por año: para primavera-verano y para otoño-invierno ante la prensa en París, una colección de al menos 35 diseños para su uso de día y de noche.

It is for these little nuances for which any firm can not be an official member of the federation of such remarkable size, and hence many brands that claim to sell his "haute couture" does not belong to this group and therefore should not use this "word" or "name" for their collections, that not everything that seems Haute Couture, is Haute Couture.
Son por estos pequeños matices por los que no cualquier firma puede ser miembro oficial de esta federación de tal notable envergadura , y de ahí que muchas marcas que nos afirman vender su "Alta Costura", no pertenecen a este grupo y por lo tanto no deberían emplear dicho "adjetivo" o "apellido" para sus colecciones, por que no todo lo que parece Alta Costura , lo es.

But this group is not a closed group, a number of members already quite consolidated, such us Chanel, Christian Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier (who still does not get rid of the "inspections" of the federation) but in turn , the Fédération Française de la Couture, give the opportunity to parade during the week of Haute Couture in Paris firms aspiring to belong to such meeting as a "guest", guests that if they stay and meet every of the requirements established by the federation for a number of seasons, they would join as official members and active participants in the week of Haute Couture. These "firms invited"are the protagonists of the post, I encourage you to discover their latest collections with which they take their first steps into the world of haute couture, this year's six fashion houses, some already known for its great collections of prêt-â-porter, which they hold to be one of the privileged and exclusive group, go with them! :
Pero este grupo no es un grupo cerrado , existen una serie de miembros ya bastante consolidados , como bien puedan ser Chanel , Christian Dior o  Jean Paul Gaultier (que aún así no se libran de las "inspecciones" de la federación) pero a su vez , la Fédération Française de la Couture, brinda la oportunidad de desfilar durante la Semana de la Alta Costura en París a firmas aspirantes a pertenecer a dicha asamblea , a modo de "invitados", invitados que si logran mantenerse y cumplir con todos y cada uno de los requisitos establecidos por la federación durante una serie de temporadas , llegarían a formar parte como miembros oficiales y participantes activos en la Semana de la Alta Costura. Son estas "firmas invitadas" las protagonistas del post; os animo a que descubráis sus últimas colecciones con las que dan sus primeros pasos dentro del mundo de la Alta Costura; este año son seis las casas de moda , algunas ya conocidas por sus estupendas colecciones de prét-â-porter, las que ostentan a ser uno más de este privilegiado y exclusivo grupo , ¡vamos con ellos! :


*Alexandre Vauthier

Call me old if you want, but the first impression I perceive to see the Vauthier models on the catwalk, is a more typical of a collection of "prêt-à-porter" than "haute couture", I am among those who think that this is an art to expatiate, let your imagination run wild and creativity and create with them authentic pieces of exceptions. Despite this last detail, the collection does not displease me at all, the cut and pattern of their jackets seem downright great (and it turn me back over again to a collection of prêt-â-porter) like the folds and pleats dresses or excellent handling of the leather, which define Vauthier women as a contemporary charming:
Llamadme antiguo si queréis , pero la primera impresión que percibo al ver a las modelos de Vauthier sobre la pasarela , es un aire más propio de una colección de "prét-à-porter" que de "haute couture"; soy de los que piensa que este es un arte para explayarse, dejar correr la imaginación y la creatividad y crear con ellas auténticas piezas de excepción. A pesar de este último detalle, la colección no me disgusta en absoluto , el corte y patronaje de sus chaquetas me parecen francamente geniales (y a su vez me remontan más a una colección de prét-â-porter) al igual que los pliegues y plisados de los vestidos o su excelente manejo de la piel, que definen a la mujer Vauthier como una coqueta contemporánea:

*Bouchra Jarrar

With a color palette very brief, marked by raw and black tones, the Cannes born designer, Bouchra Jarrar makes the pants the main star of his collection, making use of them in the outfits of the parade even more "couture", where not lacking key pieces like vest or cut "biker" jackets, that unless the elaborate and worked texture and details of some of them, would make the collection a bit pretentious again for something called "Haute Couture":
Con una paleta de colores muy breve, marcada por tonos crudos y el negro, la diseñadora nacida en Cannes, Bouchra Jarrar hace del pantalón la prenda estrella de su colección , haciendo uso de él incluso en los outfit más "couture" del desfile, donde no faltaron piezas clave como el chaleco o las chaquetas corte "biker", que a no ser de la elaborada y trabajada textura y detalles de algunas de ellas , harían de la colección un vez más algo poco pretencioso para denominarse "Alta Costura":

*Iris van Herpen

Dutch designer, becomes certainly one of my favorite newcomers for membership approved by the Fédération Française de la Couture with a collection as novel as specific of couture creations because, far from resembling the classic lights and typical dresses, very common and seen in such parades, meet a key objective for me as far as this universe form a sprawl of creativity and uniqueness as well in this case, innovation in materials and manufacturing:, to which one of the few disadvantages that the attribute is the shortage of models presented, which barely reach eleven:
La diseñadora Holandesa , se convierte sin duda alguna en una de mis debutantes favoritas para convertirse en miembro aprobado por la Fédération Française de la Couture con una colección tan novedosa como propia de la alta costura,  pues sus creaciones , muy lejos de asemejarse a los clásicos y típicos vestidos de luces , muy habituales y vistos en este tipo de desfiles, cumplen con un objetivo fundamental para mi en cuanto a este universo: conforman un desparrame de creatividad y excepcionalidad además de en este caso , innovación tanto en materiales como confección:, a la que uno de los pocos inconvenientes que la atribuyo es la escasez de modelos presentados , que a penas llegan a once:

*Julien Fournié

Well sheltered and winter air took the catwalk models who defended  each outfits by Castilian-French designer, in his leather garments worked with could see reflected all the heritage and tradition of his grandparents, tanners, like a sensual influence from his grandmother, corset maker by trade. The golden highlights on brown , ecru and black backgrounds are the markers to give the "chic" touch to each of the looks, looks on in some of them I can almost see a lady Rotenmeyer embodied more typical of XXI century:
Bien abrigadas y con aires invernales tomaron la pasarela las modelos que defendieron a muerte cada uno de los outfits del diseñador castellano-francés; en sus prendas trabajadas con piel pudimos ver reflejada toda la herencia y tradición de sus abuelos ,curtidores, al igual de una sensual influencia procedente de su abuela , corsetera de oficio. Son los destellos dorados los encargados de dar sobre fondos marrones, crudos, y negros el toque "chic" a cada uno de los looks, looks en los que en algunos de ellos casi puedo ver encarnada a una señorita Rotenmeyer más propia del siglo XXI:

*Yiqing Yin

It was enough to take only a vague look at each of the designs presented in the parade of Yiqing Yin to realize the painstaking work involved in making each of its details and ornaments, I'll take it all! , Its abstract prints, the fall of his romantic gowns, embroidered each employee that could well be the infallible remedy hiccups, the mix of textures and materials .... certainly a very capable and competent candidate to become the disputed privilege:
Bastaba con echar tan solo una vaga mirada a cada uno de los diseños presentados en el desfile de Yiqing Yin para darse cuenta de la laboriosa tarea que conlleva la confección de cada uno de sus detalles y adornos; ¡me quedo con todo! , sus estampados abstractos , la caída de sus románticos vestidos largos, cada uno de los bordados empleados que podrían ser perfectamente el remedio infalible contra el hipo, el mix de texturas y materiales....sin duda un candidato muy apto y competente para hacerse con el privilegio disputado:

*Zuhair Murad

Sexy, very sexy, so are the dresses and looks of this designer and for many celebrity's head for around the globe, his collection is located in the narrow strip between a romantic, princess fairy tale and the evil, cunning and wicked witch of the same story. Woman dressing with Murad, woman walking with a firm step, his designs reflect security and sensuality with a twisted touch , their rich and glittering embroidery and details are for crying out loud of illusion, yes, I love it, and it has been almost impossible to select just ten models from its extensive collection presented:
Sexys, muy sexys , así son los vestidos y looks de este diseñador ya de cabecera para muchas celebritys alrededor de todo el globo; su colección se sitúa en la estrecha franja entre una mujer romántica , princesa de cuento de hadas y la perversa , astuta y malvada bruja de ese mismo cuento. Mujer que se viste con un Murad , mujer que camina con paso firme, sus diseños reflejan seguridad y sensualidad con un toque retorcido , sus ricos y brillantes bordados y detalles son para ponerse a gritar de ilusión, sí , me encanta, y me ha sido casi imposible seleccionar tan solo diez modelos de su extensa colección presentada:

Bets on who signs get approval by the Fédération Française de la Couture are on the table, the only thing  I can do, is wish them luck and courage and constancy that all work to be worthy of that title.
Las apuestas sobre que firma conseguirá ser aprobado por la Fédération Française de la Couture están sobre la mesa, lo único que puedo desearles es ánimo y muchísima suerte y que toda su constancia trabajo sean merecedoras de dicho título.
